ERG supported the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in developing the second edition of Quantifying Greenhouse Gas Fluxes in Agriculture and Forestry: Methods for Entity-Scale Inventory. This report represents more than four years of work by ERG and a team of over 60 expert authors, including USDA scientists, university researchers, and experts from nongovernmental organizations and research institutions. The updated report reflects advances in quantifying agricultural and forestry-related greenhouse gas fluxes, including updated emissions factors, methodologies, data, and a new Excel workbook for quantifying forestry fluxes. The report has undergone rigorous review, including USDA reviews from multiple offices and agencies, peer reviews by more than two dozen scientists, an intergovernmental review from multiple federal agencies, a public review, and a review by a panel of interdisciplinary experts to ensure it meets the criteria established by the Office of Management and Budget for highly influential scientific assessments—a designation reserved for the most influential science published by the federal government.
