ERG Develops New Construction Inspection Training Course for EPA
ERG recently developed a seven-hour Construction Inspection Training Course to support EPA’s new 2022 Construction General Permit (CGP). This training gives inspectors the tools they need to assess whether projects under the CGP are complying with their permit requirements, including following practices to prevent sediment and pollutants from contaminating stormwater. The course—provided on EPA’s website at no cost to permittees—improves inspectors’ knowledge of erosion and sediment controls and pollution prevention practices used during construction; proper installation, inspection, and maintenance practices; and the inspection documentation required by the CGP. To mimic the benefits of an in-person, in-the-field training while being available on demand, ERG developed two interactive exploratory site inspections in a 360-degree virtual environment, simulating being on a construction site. The course concludes with a 40-question final exam where trainees demonstrate their understanding of the training topics to earn a certificate of completion.
