ERG Shares Expertise on Green Shipping in China

In July, ERG’s John Koupal attended the International Workshop on Establishment of Vessel Emission Control Areas (ECAs) in Beijing, China, organized by Energy Foundation China and the International Council on Clean Transportation. John shared North America's experience reducing ship emissions with ECAs, ​an internationally sanctioned program to establish coastal boundaries requiring reduced ship emissions. The workshop brought together ​government, industry, and academic experts from Asia, North America, and Europe to share best practices in establishing and enforcing an ECA, as well as to provide advice to Chinese officials regarding the international application process. This invitation builds on ERG's support of EPA's U.S.-China Green Ports and Vessels Initiative and development of Mexico's ECA application for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
