Energy Program Manager

Most of today’s buildings use considerably more energy than needed (like using a chainsaw to cut butter), so reducing their energy consumption provides a powerful opportunity for addressing our nation’s energy and greenhouse gas emission challenges. With these reductions, renewable technologies such as solar and wind become more economical and the path to net-zero buildings becomes a reality. I am inspired to work with stakeholders—from tenants and operations staff up through top-level management—to help them reduce their operations cost and create environmental benefits through enhanced energy efficiency.

Kevin Carpenter (he/him/his) is an ERG energy program manager with over two decades of energy engineering and energy management experience. He supports federal clients in their daily building operating needs and in helping them achieve their long-term energy reduction and energy resiliency goals. His work spans several energy service areas including heating/cooling, lighting, building controls, emergency power, data centers, renewables, and electric vehicle charging.

Kevin began his career in industrial energy efficiency and then spent several years developing technical solutions for federal and state clients under energy savings performance contracts. His current federal energy management strategies are rooted in data analysis, client engagement, and economic viability. He has authored ten energy-related technical publications, including the “Compressed Air” chapter in the “Energy Management Handbook” (9th edition), which is used as a teaching reference for CEM training.

Kevin holds a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in a dozen states and a Certified Energy Manager. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys spending time at the pool with his wife and kids and going to ball games and concerts with family and friends.
