Senior LCA Analyst

At ERG, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with clients to solve sustainability problems and make our world a better place to live in.

Dr. Julie Chen (she/her/hers) is a senior life cycle analyst with expertise in input-output and process-based LCA models, impact assessment methods, and LCA information acquisition and management. Her work also includes uncertainty analysis, sensitivity analysis, and data quality analysis in life cycle inventories and life cycle impact methods. At ERG, Julie has been working with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in building life cycle inventories and investigating embodied carbon in construction materials. Prior to joining ERG, JulieĀ applied her LCA skills in work for academia and industry. As part of her private sector work, she developed methodologies used in scope 3 greenhouse gas emission estimation in corporate carbon footprint reporting and disclosure. In academia, Julie collaborated with NREL, the U.S. Department of Energy, and EPA in a variety of projects to build input-output and process-based LCA models, conduct data gap analysis of LCI databases, and develop input-output LCA model applications. She has also conducted research in open science, information science, and bibliometrics analysis.

Julie earned a Ph.D. and an M.S. in civil and environmental engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, crocheting, and sightseeing with her husband and son.
