Mobile Sources

From Texas to Thailand, ERG works with clients throughout the world to solve mobile source pollution challenges. We bring a unique array of integrated services to each project—combining our internationally recognized technical expertise with cutting-edge information technology, communications, and economic and regulatory support.

Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Programs
ERG designs, implements, and evaluates all types of I/M programs at the state and local level. We evaluate overall program effectiveness by focusing on the key issues—compliance, inspection, vehicle repair, and enforcement. We also help agencies in other countries develop I/M programs to meet their unique requirements.

Emissions Factor Modeling Development
ERG is highly experienced in modelling gaseous and particulate emissions from motor vehicles. We have developed and tested models for EPA, as well as numerous states and other countries, often using vehicle-specific test data to refine and generate the models.

Control Strategies
ERG develops cost-effective control strategies for reducing ambient air emissions, especially in nonattainment areas for ozone and particulate matter. Our experts consider the full range of control options available, including clean fuel strategies, remote sensing devices and on-board diagnostics (OBD), vehicle repairs, engine modifications and retrofits, and new and proposed emission standards.

Air Emissions Inventories
ERG is a recognized leader in developing air emissions inventories for all types of pollutants and source categories —both on-road and off-road. We have supported local, state, national, and international efforts to characterize emissions, compile inventories, forecast trends, and assess facility attainment of air quality standards.

Information Technology
ERG’s mobile source experts team up with software engineers, database designers, Web programmers, and technology analysts to provide comprehensive technical services, from start to finish. This unique approach allows ERG to produce state-of-the-art IT solutions tailored to your specific needs. Some examples of these software applications are:

Communications and Outreach
ERG’s writers, designers, media specialists, trainers, and marketing experts offer a wealth of experience to meet clients’ program implementation and communications needs. Our technical and creative staff work closely to provide the perfect mix of talents on all projects such as comprehensive outreach strategies, training programs, and promotional materials.

Data Collection and Analysis
Our field-seasoned staff offer complete data collection and analysis capabilities. Whether collecting activity data through surveys, conducting studies of on-road emissions and driving behavior, or pioneering exhaust gas recirculation system function tests, ERG delivers high-quality service each time. We also provide training and complete quality assurance services, including audits and third-party reviews.

Economic and Regulatory
Support

ERG’s economists, statisticians, policy experts, and researchers help clients assess the cost-effectiveness of alternative control strategies, technologies, and regulatory options. We support each step of the regulatory process and can analyze financial impacts from both the public and private perspective.

Non-Road and Diesel Expertise
We possess in-depth knowledge of non-road emission sources and specialize in developing emission factor estimates, performing site-specific surveys for fleets, evaluating control options, and tracking the latest technology developments. For diesel-powered vehicles, our experts also perform emissions modeling and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of new standards, fuels, and control options.
