Joy Onasch

Pollution Prevention Project Manager

I am driven to apply pragmatic, preventive approaches to preserve and protect our environment for the next generation. I enjoy seeing project results that lead to improved worker health and safety and a cleaner environment.

For over 25 years, Joy Onasch has managed and/or supported environmental compliance and pollution prevention projects for a wide variety of clients, including government agencies; military facilities; universities; and businesses in the food and beverage, metal finishing, and general manufacturing sectors. She specializes in helping clients understand the business case for investing in facility modifications to prevent pollution and in engineering solutions to reduce their use of toxic chemicals. These projects have helped many of her clients achieve significant pollution prevention results.

Through this work, Joy has developed a deep understanding of alternatives assessments and how to amplify project success to peer groups. She uses live and virtual events, videos, and case studies to help facilities tell their stories—including lessons learned—to other P2 professionals or industrial audiences with similar challenges. In addition, Joy has supported EPA clients in developing new grant programs consisting of managing and executing feedback sessions, analyzing comments received, and constructing new grant materials and tools to streamline the process.

Joy earned a B.S in mechanical engineering from Union College and an M.S. in engineering and policy from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a registered Professional Engineer in three states and a Certified Toxics Use Reduction Planner in Massachusetts. Joy likes to spend time with family and friends, keeping up with her two kids and their activities, and staying active outside in any season.
